Itinerary

Pozhuthana in South Wayanad has some of the oldest tea plantations in the area. The tea gardens and the misty mountains make for spectacular views. Park your vehicle on a shoulder on the road at Peringoda. You can either get dropped back after the ride or instruct your driver to come over to the landing point downriver. Stroll through a meadow to reach the dirt trail that takes you to the rafting point, which is on a bend in the Vythiri river. Do not forget to wear your life jackets even though the river seems shallow it hides deceptive deeps in its path.

A deft river guide will accompany you on the bamboo raft and he will pole it midstream from where you will float downstream as the river goes through exciting bends. The calm river is a delight and allows ample opportunity to observe birds and insect life on the banks, including the famous Malabar Hornbill. Spot small shrines to tribal deities on the river bank and splash around in shallow sections in the river. The raft will finally stop below the Anoth bridge 3 kilometers downstream. Dry off and head to a local tea shop for hot tea and snacks.
