Marari is the sister to Kalari Kovilacom and Kalari Rasayana and is a little less formal in its attitude towards Ayurveda. It is an ideal host for visitors who have children with them or need something a little less "strict".
Marari Beach Resort Kerala is built in the style of a traditional fishing village with thatched villas that have been designed to blend in with the local village style although they have not stinted on luxury at the same time. Situated on the famous Marari Beach to the north of Alappuzha, this resort is a preferred choice among visitors to Kerala who are seeking a beach experience without the built-up experience so common to other Kerala beach hotels. It is interesting to be noted that other resorts in Kerala have tried to copy the Marari Beach Resort model of open spaces and widely spread cabanas.
Marari Beach Resort is spread over some fifty five acres adjoining the ocean and is a spacious melange of coconut groves, wooded copses of local trees, lotus ponds and lawns. The resort garners a lot of favourable reviews of it relaxed ambiance and the mature eco-system it has created. It also possesses the most wonderful large swimming pool.
This luxury resort doesn't offer the kind of luxury accommodation in the strict shiny sense of many modern hotel. Though all the villas are spacious, refined and well maintained, the resort has captured much of the local flavour and is really a mini coastal village in itself. Even if the resort has heavily influenced by the fishermen's dwellings in design, it features all the conveniences required by the modern day traveller. The holiday makers will enjoy this fusion of traditional patterns and contemporary comforts.
The guests at Marari Beach Resort can choose their accommodation from 65 cottages, which are categorised as Garden Villas and Pool Villas (which have their own private pools in their walled gardens).
THE POOL VILLAS
The Pool Villas at Marari are the top grade of rooms available and offer refined comfort for couples who are looking for privacy and a certain chic. We have found them very popular with our honeymoon guests! They feature outdoor pool area, living/bed room and private bathroom.
THE STANDARD VILLAS
The standard villas are every bit as spacious but lack the private walled garden with pool. They all feature walled outdoor bathroom which sounds odd but is lovely.
EATING AT MARARI BEACH RESORT
Ayurveda visitors are normally maintained on a specific diet designed by the doctor as part of their treatment programme. If travelling with non-ayurveda friends and family, there are a number restaurants on site as well.
Breakfast including traditional Kerala puttu are served through the morning under the thatched roof.
The seafood restaurant at the Resort which is set back from the sea by about 100 yards is a wonderful opportunity for the guests to feast on the wide array of local seafood. Kerala's geography next to the Arabian sea means that you get fresh seafood all the time. What sets the fish served here apart is that it is cooked in earthenware pots seen in the kitchens of rural homes in Kerala. Cooked in slow wood fire, exactly the way done in fisherman's huts give it a distinct flavour.
This resort places a lot of emphasis on healthy food. Only organically grown fruits and vegetables are used in the preparation of the food served here. You will love their farm kitchen were you can pick your own veggies and assist in preparing and cooking them. We particularly appreciated the charm, friendliness and efficiency of Manager Subrahmanian who is always on the run to meet his guests and make their stay a very special one.
MARARI BEACH RESORT REVIEWS!
ECO FRIENDLY MARARI BEACH RESORT
This eco-friendly resort is simple yet comfortable with furniture made from locally-sourced materials. The bathrooms are open to the sky and the bedrooms are well-appointed, but free of televisions as the resort believes one’s time here is better spent watching the sunset or walking in the gardens. We agree!- Conde Nest Traveller
MARARI BEACH RESORT - BRILLIANT HOSPITALITY, LOVELY ROOMS, GREAT BEACH
This is a lovely resort, with amazing staff. The rooms are gorgeous, and well-equipped with outdoor bathrooms. The facilities in the resort are very good - lovely, clean sandy beach; expansive area with loungers and hammocks; big pool (with tasty free snacks served in the afternoon!); free internet; and a book house, which was a real treat. The resort does try to be green - with its own vegetable garden and lovely areas dedicated to attracting butterflies (and there are clouds of them!). We also had an excellent walk with a very knowledgeable naturalist - which I strongly recommend. My wife really enjoyed her massage - the best she had in India. The food is very good quality with lots of choice, and you'll probably end up eating here as there's not much else around. It is a bit pricey though by Indian standards. We didn't stay half-board, but it might be worth doing so (although I think you then have to eat in the main restaurant, and the fish restaurant was fun). Reviewed 16 February 2013

“BACK AGAIN! TO MARARI BEACH..”
I rarely return to the same place within such a short space of time, but this little bit of paradise is irresistible. This review builds on my previous one from my visit a year earlier. All the things that impressed me the first time we visited Marari Beach Resort, continue to impress! A most beautiful setting of palm and coconut trees on a private beach. An eco resort that truly cares for the environment. And above all, a staff that provides the most friendly, personable and unpretentious service. We finished off our trip to India with six nights of relaxation at Marari, after starting off at Coconut Lagoon and Spice Coast Cruises. We visited during the San Sebastian festival and I highly recommend catching a rickshaw to visit the basilica - in the evenings you can also catch some colourful parades on the street! Back at the resort, you can enjoy meals made of the freshest locally sourced ingredients by chefs who are proud of their work and care about their customers, like all other staff. The afternoon tea cart by the pool is still a hit and signals the beginning of gorgeous sunsets and a very relaxing mellow atmosphere to ease you into the evening. Throw in an Ayurvedic treatment, and you won't want to go home!
